Role Summary 

We are looking for a Backend Engineer to build, scale, and continuously improve backend systems and services for a modern digital banking platform. This role focuses on developing reliable, scalable, and secure cloud-native services using Kotlin or Java, RESTful APIs, event-driven microservices, relational databases, and cloud technologies. The Backend Engineer will work within small, interdisciplinary teams and take end-to-end ownership of services from development through production operations. 

Key Responsibilities 

• Build and continuously improve backend systems and services. 

• Develop RESTful APIs and event-driven microservices. 

• Design and operate reliable, scalable, and secure backend services. 

• Develop services using Kotlin or Java within a cloud-native microservice architecture. 

• Work with event streams and relational databases. 

• Build high-quality, maintainable code supported by strong automated testing. 

• Use containers and orchestration platforms to deploy and operate services. 

• Implement and continuously improve CI/CD practices. 

• Monitor production services, investigate issues, and respond to incidents. 

• Take end-to-end ownership of services following a “you build it, you run it” approach. 

• Collaborate effectively within fast-paced, cross-functional engineering and product teams. 

Required Skills 

• Strong proficiency in Kotlin/Java, and Python.  

• Solid experience in backend software development. 

• Strong understanding of distributed systems and microservice architecture. 

• Hands-on experience with event-driven architecture and event streams. 

• Strong RESTful API design skills, including backward compatibility. 

• Experience working with relational databases. 

• Strong software testing practices, including unit and integration testing. 

• Experience with CI/CD processes and modern software delivery practices. 

• Experience with containers and orchestration platforms. 

• Hands-on experience with AWS or similar cloud environments. 

• Strong ownership mindset for production operations and incident response. 

• Ability to work effectively in fast-paced, cross-functional teams. 

• Strong communication and organizational skills. 

Domain Experience 

• Experience in digital banking, banking, financial services, or other technology-driven environments is an advantage. 

• Exposure to building scalable and reliable systems for high-availability or customer-facing platforms is valuable. 

Nice to Have 

• Familiarity with AI-assisted software development workflows. 

• Experience working in cloud-native engineering environments. 

• Exposure to continuous delivery and production ownership practices. 

• Experience working with Thought Machine Vault Core or similar cloud-native core banking platforms 

Key Qualifications 

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent. 

• Proven experience in backend development and modern software engineering practices. 

• Experience designing and operating distributed, cloud-based microservices. 

• Quick learner with a results-driven mindset. 

• Strong collaboration skills and ability to work effectively across engineering and product teams.
