Role Summary 

We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer to own the technical foundation, architecture, and delivery direction of a modern AWS-based Lakehouse platform for a banking environment. 

This role is responsible for making key architecture and tooling decisions across the data platform stack, including ingestion, streaming, orchestration, governance, security, data warehouse architecture, and schema design. The role will work closely with the engineering team and provide technical guidance to two Data Engineers. 

Key Responsibilities 

• Own the overall data platform architecture and technical direction across the Lakehouse stack. 
• Define the platform foundation and tooling selection using AWS services such as Redshift, S3, Lake Formation, MSK, Glue, and Athena. 
• Design the ingestion architecture, including CDC, streaming, batch ingestion, and transformation patterns. 
• Lead technical decisions for Debezium, Kafka/MSK, Flink, Python-based ingestion, and data processing pipelines. 
• Define orchestration and lineage approach using Apache Airflow. 
• Establish data warehouse architecture, data modelling standards, schema governance, and data mart design principles. 
• Define data governance practices, including data inventory, catalog, data quality, lineage, metadata, and ownership. 
• Ensure platform design includes appropriate data security, privacy, access control, and regulatory compliance controls. 
• Guide and review the work of Data Engineers to ensure alignment with architecture standards and delivery priorities. 
• Collaborate with business, engineering, architecture, and banking stakeholders to ensure the platform supports reporting, analytics, regulatory, and operational needs. 

Required Skills 

• Strong experience in Data Platform, Lakehouse, or Data Warehouse architecture. 
• Hands-on experience with AWS data services, especially Redshift, S3, Lake Formation, MSK, Glue, and Athena. 
• Strong expertise in data ingestion, CDC, streaming architecture, and batch/real-time data pipelines. 
• Practical experience with Debezium, Kafka/MSK, Flink, Python, and Apache Airflow. 
• Strong understanding of data modelling, schema design, data warehouse architecture, and schema governance. 
• Experience defining data governance, data catalog, data quality, lineage, and metadata management practices. 
• Good understanding of data security, privacy, access control, and compliance requirements. 
• Ability to lead technical decisions, provide engineering direction, and guide Data Engineering teams. 
• Strong communication skills with both technical and business stakeholders. 

Domain Experience 

• Banking domain experience is strongly preferred.  
• Experience with banking data, regulatory reporting, financial data, customer/account data, transaction data, risk, AML/KYC, or compliance-related data is highly valuable. 

Nice to Have 

• Experience working in modern cloud-native data platform environments. 
• Exposure to Databricks, Snowflake, BigQuery, Synapse, or similar modern data platforms. 
• Experience with data platform migration, legacy data modernization, or reporting platform transformation. 
• Experience working in Agile delivery teams using Jira and Confluence. 

Key Qualifications 

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, Data Analytics, Finance, Banking, or a related field. 
• 7+ years of experience in Data Engineering, Data Architecture, Data Platform, or Data Warehouse roles. 
• Proven experience leading technical architecture decisions for enterprise-scale data platforms. 
• Strong background in AWS-based data platforms and banking or regulated-industry environments.
