Role Summary 

As the AWS Practice Lead, you will work closely with the senior management team to ensure that the strategy, direction of the practice are fully executed. You will also work to ensure internal stakeholder engagement is effective and supports the needs of the practice and the wider GFT UK operating structure.


In this role you will also work alongside the sales team, other practices, staffing and recruitment to create and deliver the effective management of demand (projects) versus supply (resources). You will also partner with HR and Learning and Development teams to research, curate and maintain the learning pathways for all levels within the AWS team.


Above all, the role of the AWS Practice Lead requires you to be an ambassador for GFT through successful project delivery that supports the business in a professional manner and engenders a culture of collaboration with both the business and clients, and act as a leader to the Global AWS community. You will be diligent, commercially aware and feed into key relationships to promote the delivery of value.


Key areas of responsibilities:

  • Ensure optimal organisational structures are in place and the teams/staff have the requisite skills to deliver against expectations; i.e. ensuring the efficient use of resources and appropriate alignment of skills to projects
  • Ensure AWS frameworks are always used that facilitate the delivery of end-to-end projects, make sure all Practice consultants establish and maintain the correct structures to control and monitor the deliverables to the Delivery Management team
  • Understand the sales pipeline with early engagement in pre-sales activities to ensure the appropriate AWS frameworks and methods are applied i.e. AWS’s Cloud Adoption Framework (CAF); Migration Acceleration Programme (MAP)
  • Ensure delivery frameworks and methods (methodologies, tooling and delivery capability) are aligned to GFT Group standards and consistently adopted across all projects
  • Manage the Demand (pipeline) and Supply (consultants) to meet market needs
  • Assisting the UK Management Team & GFT’s Global Cloud Unit with overall strategy and market direction for the practice
  • Supporting and contributing to the Global AWS Business Plan agreed by GFT’s Executive Board and AWS
  • People Management: Directly manage people within the Practice. Developing Practice members through defined career, development and promotional path ways. Performance Management and recruitment into the practice
  • Responsible for bringing to market existing and future offerings
  • Operational alignment to the PSU Office
  • Responding to RFPs and RFIs as and when they are required
  • Define offerings and their launch plan into the market; leveraging AWS’s Well-Architected framework and utilised AWS Marketing Development Funding process (MDF)
  • Work with Practice Leads outside of their country that have similar offerings to help develop further a global practice network, sharing of ideas and resources
  • Developing / enhancing methods in the UK to drive delivery excellence in all of our engagements
  • Ensuring a strong partnership between Project Delivery Lead, Client Units and Practice Leads


Competencies and Skills Needed

Role specific skills:

  • Knowledge of AWS’s service offering and competency in a number of AWS specialisms, gained via professional certification
  • Ability to manage high level relationships, influence senior stakeholders and have excellent negotiation skills
  • Ability to shape proposals and solutions
  • In-depth understanding of project management principles (traditional and agile)
  • Ability to manage complexity (e.g. managing remote teams and clients)
  • Solid financial acumen and the ability to identify sales opportunities
  • Solid people management skills including motivation, relationships, interpersonal skills, coaching and conflict resolution
  • Awareness and understanding of multiple technologies


Knowledge and experience:

  • Knowledge of software development methodologies (e.g. DevOps, Agile, SAFe, Waterfall etc.)
  • Experience to support GFT’s AWS offerings. E.g. o Grid Computing; Application Modernisation; Digital Banking; Open Banking; Governance Control Frameworks
  • Previous knowledge of running delivery within a consultancy
